Below is a list of frequently asked plumbing questions. Please feel free to contact All Star Plumbing with any questions you might have at 301-890-6826.
What causes your toilet to run?

•        First check to see that the flapper is okay.
•        Check to see if the fill valve dirty or worn out
•        The float ball or chain might be stuck

Over time, parts in your parts in your toilet will deteriorate due to the chemicals in your water.

2.   Considering new toilets?

You’ve probably heard they don’t flush as efficiently as the old ones.  The first generation of “low flow” toilets where not very efficient.  We are now on 5th and 6th generation of the new toilets and things have improved dramatically.  Keep in mind, as with any product, the less expensive the toilet the less efficient it will work.

All Star Plumbing provides toilets in every make and model available, all at a reasonable price.  Talk to one of our technicians for more information on what is available.  If All Star Plumbing replaces your toilet, we will dispose of the old one for no additional fees.

3.   What causes bubbling in the toilet?

This is a prelude to a stoppage; the line has a partial blockage.  Contact All Star Plumbing as soon as possible to schedule an appointment to remove the blockage.  The sooner your pipes are clear, the better for your whole plumbing system.  Postponing this type of repair could cause additional blockage throughout your plumbing system and require extensive cleaning and repairs, which means additional cost to you, the homeowner.

4.  Do over the counter drain cleaners really work?

They are more for preventative maintenance, once you have a blockage, it may be too late.  Extremely effective drain cleaners are used by professionals and are not available over the counter.  If you attempt to fix a clog yourself, it is very important that you NEVER MIX CHEMICALS IN YOUR DRAIN like bleach and Liquid Plummer.  Of course, if you’d rather not be bothered, call All Star Plumbing, we can remove any type of blockage from your drains.

5.  What food refuse can NOT go down the garbage disposal?

•        Avoid seeds, bones, and shells
•        Anything that swells like pasta, rice, wheat germ, etc.
•        Common Sense is the best indicator.  Don’t place anything in your garbage disposal that
might bend the blades.

You can keep your disposal clean by periodically placing used lemon or lime peels in it.  If your garbage disposal stops working, call All Star Plumbing.  We repair and if necessary, replace garbage disposals.  We have a wide variety of garbage disposals available, talk to our technician for more information.
